Kimball Design Hack: a smart furniture competition
LYNX is the new office chair concept design for Kimball design competition. We have conceived LYNX as a chair that helps both the worker and the company increase productivity and workspace comfort through data analysis.
Our team developed a chair with several sensors able to collect data from the worker, such as weight balance, time sitting, bad positioning, etc. We added a small screen in the armrest where the worker, after logging in with fingerprinting access, can see several screens like health data, office temperature, meeting alerts, or any other kind of information that the company wants to show to the employee. The worker can set vibration notifications, armrest screen notifications, app phone notifications, or none of them.
On the other hand, the company can use all this data to work in better schedules regarding the average bad positioning of the employees, send relevant information to the workers, study behaviors and look for healthy habits to implement in the company day basics. All the chairs, using IoT technology, creates a data network with high-value reports and information.
Above all the possibilities described before, we design an office chair that destroys the concept of technology equals complex design. Our team developed a light design that runs away from the complex “ergonomic” chairs. LYNX main goal is to create a healthy office environment and simple design also helps reduce visual stress. We choose light materials and smooth color palettes except for the different regulation buttons to support this idea of reducing visual stress.
LYNX is the connecting point between good design, high technology, data analysis and healthy workspace that links with the newest companies philosophy of creating workspaces that increase productivity without even notice. LYNX is the future made present.
